Universal Filament Spool Holder
Description
This is a remix of this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4670888. The upload utility did not find the actual thing for some reason. I do have a Snapmaker 2 A-250 but I have different brands of filament so I needed the mount to be larger. It will fit perfectly on the Snapmaker 2 Spool Rod but redesigned it to be able to be used with much larger holes in spools. I don't know what the largest spool out there may be, but this will work with a hole size of up to 3.5" or 88.9mm. Uses 2 608 skate bearings and can be used on any rod that fits through those bearings and is at least 79mm or 3.11" long. So usage is not limited to the snapmaker 2. Depending on your printer there may be only very minor massaging or sanding of the bearing holes. For me I only had to use an xacto knife on the one that had supports. The tapers on each of the holders self-centers the spools, the smoother the print the easier it will self center. I printed mine in fast and they are a little rough, but doesn't affect centering much other than just a bit of wiggling as you tighten it up. I rounded the hex part to be easy on the fingers when tightening and loosening. I designed plenty of clearance in the threads to account for printer tolerances, even on a rough fast print it is easy to turn. You will probably need to rotate the .stl so that the largest end is down on the build plate. You will only need supports on the male side of this for the bottom bearing ledge. Setting supports for only touching the build plate is all that is needed. You will not need supports for the female side of this at all. You will not need supports for the threads. Bed adhesion type will be a matter of preference for your printer application. I had no issues when using none. I do not have any recommended print settings. It is going to be a matter of personal preference. Fast print settings with a layer height of .24mm worked just fine. I used Cura on my Snapmaker 2 with instructions found here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLY85usal60. Note for Snapmaker 2 users, if you do not have the A-350 like in that video, you only have to set the build dimensions different. Everything else is the same for either the A-150 or the A-250. Please comment with feedback if you think something could be better.
