VitaMATS
Description
MATS, the original Mega Anti-Tangle Spool Holder, is widely considered to be an overengineered, unnecessarily complicated design. Some of its drawbacks include: * High part count, many vitamins required * Tendency for arms to collapse when no spool loaded * Over time, spool weight and opposing forces cause the two sides of the base to bow outwards, contributing factor in creep under load when printed in PLA * Spool rollers constructed in two parts with a flush fit across the center that places stress along layer lines * Does not actually prevent tangles * No cats MATSEx aimed to solve a number of these issues, but ultimately magnified them by scaling the design up to fit a 3kg spool. Taking some cues from other MATS remixes, VitaMATS now increases the number of vitamins by 66%! Two 608 bearings are now intended to be set in each pair of arms where they interface with the base left and right pieces. The lower brace part has been reworked as to have an M8 thread printed in; if this is difficult for your printer to achieve consider tapping out the thread afterwards. The assembly mates with an M8x30 bolt that can be tightened or loosened to increase or decrease the arm's holding force. Alternatively, you can also use two M8 coupling nuts and a length of M8 rod to substitute for the printed lower brace, but this is an untested configuration. It is also possible to replace the M8 bolts with a single section of M8 threaded rod with nuts threaded in the appropriate locations, but this seems... tedious. Arms will also require 2 M3 nuts and 2 M3x16 countersunk hex screws. Button head may also work but I recommend countersunk due to the clearances available for the roller and 608 bearing. This is something of an advanced build, and requires a solid knowledge of how to print with supports, mate printed parts together, use of vitamins such as machine-threaded rod, appropriate care of cats, constant force joints, and other such shenanigans.
