KLR650 Clutch Switch
Description
This is to make a temporary clutch switch for a gen 1 KLR650 motorcycle. I had purchased a 2005 KLR650 and was a bit choked when I got it home and discovered that the bike would be unable to pass a safety inspection because the previous owner had not only defeated the safety switches (a popular mod), but had removed them entirely. The switch is not available on it's own and instead is part of the clutch lever holder which runs between 70 and 100 dollars. I didn't want to spend that just for a safety. I had some micro switches on hand (backups in case one broke on a printer) and used that. They can be purchased easily on Amazon for a few bucks (Canada: https://www.amazon.ca/Twidec-Switch-Action-Button-KW11-3Z02/dp/B07P11JG8K/). Everything else is rather simple. Use a M3 screw to install it onto the bike, which is what the stock switch takes, and the micro switch could even be secured in place in the housing with a couple short pieces of filament if you don't have tiny screws. Maybe just melt the ends a bit so they don't fall out. The 3D printed switch leaves the contacts exposed so you can do whatever you'd like with them. The normally-open contact is required for the switch, causing the contact to close when the clutch is pulled in.
