Normally, I avoid anything relying on tension or snapping, but I felt adventurous on this particular day. 5mm is probably a bit thick, so I may try a 2.5mm version later on just to see if it can save on some material. In any case, over-engineering is encouraged in a factory setting. Snapping them into place in the first place is a snap. They require a little added dexterity to get them out due to the placement of the hooks, but I think it helps add to the security. As far as orientation goes, your best bet may be with the USB ports facing down as it relieves tension on the wires and keeps dust out of any unused ports. If you face it upwards for better accessibility, you should probably use some additional cable management so the bracket isn't bearing the additional weight.
