PSU Fan housing for Ender3
Description
This is an aditional housing for the standard Ender 3 PSU to fit a new quiet fan. The housing incorporates a Noctua NF A6x25 12V fan. The original fan was 24V so I needed to fit a LM2596 DC-DC buck converter to reduce the voltage to use the new fan. I hear some power supplies use a 12V fan already so please keep this in mind and either meassure the voltage where the original fan is plugged into the power supply or read the label on the existing fan which will probably state the voltage on there. you will need to cut the original fan off the cable and solder the wires to the buck convertor input side of the buck converter board. You will need a small hole drilling into the case cover of the PSU just behind where the buck converter will sit to connect the wire to the PSU. I used a 10mm drill to do this and remove any burrs if it is rough to make it safe. The new fan connects to the output side of the buck converter. This noctua has three wires, you just need to use the red and black and ignore the yellow wire. After the wires are connected to the buck convertor, push the converter onto the pins in the enclosure, you will find it a little slack, you have two options to fix it, either super glue it where the pins are or melt the pins using a soldering iron tip, i used the latter method which works pretty well. To fit the new fan just screw it in using the existing screws from the back of the PSU case cover through to the fan on front, then screw this enclosure to the fan from the front. Please note that the new fan is fitted with the label facing away from the PSU itself. This means that the air is actually sucked out of the PSU, this is the same way of the original fan. obviously take care when the PSU cover is off that there is no mains power to it. I have included the fusion 360 file in case anyone wants to do any mods to it.
