Ground flashing beacon for night flying of RC planes
Description
Portable flashing beacon for night flying of RC planes and drones. Can be installed of the ground in the field, or on the car roof. I even fly with it in the forest. Is made of powerful 15W 12V white LEDs at sides and 5W 12V LED at the top. Sides can be set up at any angle. In collapsed configuration takes small space for easy transportation. Needs Arduino Pro Mini 328P 5V, 5 n-channel MOSFETs (I took some from old motherboard), 5 resistors for MOSFETs and 2 resistors for voltage divider to measure battery voltage, and an active 5V buzzer. Also needs 2 buttons. Uses 3s battery. Theoretically, Arduino and LEDs can accept 4s but I did not try. Has 2 buttons to select flashing sequence (see code) and speed. Also possible to turn off and on by button. Short press, long press, double press and triple press are utilized. All the project and code is there: https://github.com/Andrey-Prikupets/RC/tree/master/Beacon5 Video of night flight in the forest: https://youtu.be/gsK8hK5qiCs In flashing mode LEDs do not heat up so I printed with PLA with 15% infill. I prefer 0.1 layer but 0.2 will work too.
