DIY 3DPrint Kaleidoscope

DIY 3DPrint Kaleidoscope

Description

I originally wanted to buy a kaleidoscope, but good ones or custom ones are rather expensive. Not to talk about my wet dream of a novascope (look it up its magical but also 200€+ in price) So I wanted to print one and either go and customize the outside with modelling clay or with blender. I first thought about how to get a glitter and whatnot container in it and all with no glue. Whyever I dont want that no idea anymore. In the pictures you can see the front is threaded in and a container is hold in by the back part. The container is actually a 15g beads/glitter container i found laying around with the outer diameter of 41mm x 17mm. I had difficulty finding precut mirrors in the size I needed, so there is also the option without mirrors but to insert mirrorfoil carton. Here in Germany "Schokoküsse" are packaged in such. The quality isnt as nice but still pretty. 02.05.21 - Added Solidworks part zip, renamed the test parts appropiate and added the first final version for use with a mirror carton - its slightly wider in diameter because i had to adjust for glass mirrors. 04.05.21 - I luckily got gifted mirrors cut to size by "Glas Leuchtle" Germany Dillingen/Saar in the dimensions max32,4(32) x max195,5(195) x 3 and designed a back part fitting those dimensions in my intended design. Also added a test part for fitting test and final stls for the "simple" version. Want to design different back skins soon. 05.05.21 - The final piece is up and running. Just need to find nicer and more translucent inbeds. What you need cheap: - a printer with a printing height of 195+ - mirror foil carton ~102mm x 195mm - beads container Ø41mm x 17mm either with or without thread, mine was from Rayher - translucent beads, trinkets - print Front - print Back_without_mirror_cutouts What you need lucky/expensive: - a printer with a printing height of 195+ - 3x mirrors 32mm x 195mm x 3mm - beads container Ø41mm x 17mm either with or without thread, mine was from Rayher - translucent beads, trinkets - print Front - print Back Printing: - approx 6 hours of printing time - no support - for better bed adhesion outer brim - 0.2 layer height is absolutely fine
