Light Bar (ASWX1 or other 2020 3D Printer Frame)
Description
LED Light Housing. I created this housing around my own needs which were to light the inside of my chamber as well as have some flexibility (Use 1 or 2, H or O shaped configuration if using 2). Due to moving gantry and Z sync cable, I needed to mount housings on top. I needed the lights to be near the outside perimeter of build plate so the parts weren't in the shadows. I also wanted to maintain access to the filament sensor and top mounted spool holder. Chamber was built first, so the height was determined by the space in my chamber. Housings were designed for a single t-nut to hold in the t slot rails. I originally designed 4 snap tabs, but due to layer direction, they didn't hold up so well. I modified the design before loading on Thingiverse so that anyone interested can stick a piece of 1.75mm filament thru the holes in 4 locations to hold housing together. This feature I haven't tested as I still am utilizing housings I had, but simple concept and dislike the screws. I purchased a 5V USB 1M Cool White LED Strip on eBay for under $4. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323187912842?var=512269096246 I cut the strip in designated areas between the copper dots in (8) strips with 6 LEDs per strip (approx 4"). I discarded the remaining LED's from the USB cable. I held the 2 housing together and marked the square hole openings on the inside of top housing for proper positioning. Peel the adhesive backing and stick to inside of top housing. I soldered the LED's per wiring sketch which required about 12-14" of cable to connect 2 housing and some light duty wire to connect the LED strips together. Power and ground orientation is important. A slide switch can be added at your discretion. I am using a power strip that shuts power off to designated plugs when printer is switched off.
