Self-Watering Planter
Description
Up for your consideration is the Self-Watering Planter. Hat tip to Quenta for the inspiration, except we chose a smaller coffee filter available in the US. Using a standard Melitta #2 cone coffee filter inside, it wicks water up through holes in the dish into the coffee filter media. This moistens all the dirt just right. Recommend the new water goes in the dish, as watering from the top may block the filter. The flowers serve as vent holes. You can start seeds or use it to raise small plants. For ours, we used PLA at 100% size, .2mm layers, and 50% fill. Ours did not require supports or rafts, etc. It is holding water well. When placing the new filter into the planter, allow the lower seam of the filter to drop down all the way to the bottom. Try the optional cover (print it upside down w/o supports) if you are hoping to trap some heat and moisture while germinating. When your plant is ready to be transplanted, carefully tip everything over into your other hand, and you can remove everything (filter will have broken down).
