BLTouch Mount/Cover/Cable Strain Relief for Artillery Sidewinder X1v4
Description
I originally developed a cover with cable strain relief and having capability to remove the cover without unplugging the problematic ribbon cable. My original cover also included a unique probe setup. I posted thing 4784042 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4784042 without the probe feature for the Thingiverse community. I realized all the BL Touch users might not appreciate the full potential of design, particularly if they felt cover didn’t work with their current probe brackets. This remix includes a cover which hides the BL Touch, reduces the bright LED, and tucks it in closer to the hot end than some other mounts allowing for larger probe sampling of bed. There is a small slot near bottom of the vertical channel for the probe LED light to shine thru and I assume the bed directly below will still glow. Not for those who want to proudly show off their BLTouches! This a replacement cover for the Sidewinder X1v4 extruder. Besides the visual upgrade, I split the cover into 2 parts and added strain relief for the cable. I removed my cover numerous times, but having read of all the issues with the ribbon cables and suggestions of hot gluing the cable to the connector with a few dabs of hot glue, left the cable attached and cover usually dangling on the cable. By attaching the smaller cover piece first (which will stay on going forward), it allows me to remove the main cover as needed without unplugging the cable. It also utilizes 2 foam rubber pieces in pockets on either side of cable to hold the cable in place rather than hot glue. The foam strips are 3.5x5x25mm. The cover utilizes the existing 8mm length screws for the outer cover. The inner smaller cover will also need 8mm length screws in place of the 3mm screws that came with the unit. The adjustable BL Touch mount includes 3 pieces. The platen replaces the existing platen/spacer between the stepper motor and the pc board. Place a 3mm nylon lock nut into back side hex pocket before assembly. Then insert cylinder spacer to hold nut forward. Screw a 3mm bolt thru the adjustable bracket and platen and nylon lock nut. If the adjustment bracket is flush with platen at top, it should be very close to proper height. Modify firmware to these offsets. X_PROBE_OFFSET_FROM_EXTRUDER 30 Y_PROBE_OFFSET_FROM_EXTRUDER -18 Both cover parts require supports touching the bed, but they are minimal. BL Touch brackets don’t require supports. I printed in ABS, but should work with any material. While I don't care for diagonal stripes on the front surface (which contacted the build plate); I have taken course sandpaper and run it vertically along 2 face surfaces achieving similar grain as layer lines on rest of cover and ran a Dremel buffer wheel to polish with good results. I have also glued a short strip of blue filament in the vertical slot to add a little color on mine. **UNTESTED BLTouch Mount**. As I don’t have a BL Touch, please send a picture of your make or let me know if there is an issue with fitting so I can correct or remove the thing. I designed around MD3DD’s BL Touch model and CAD data found in manuals for V1-V3. Being posted for over a month and over 250 downloads with no makes or comments, I assume all is well and have removed the Work in Progress status.
