Conical Wheel - Snap In Place

Conical Wheel - Snap In Place

Description

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfgcoxC8F24 I made this messing around in Fusion 360 one night and found it to be surprisingly durable, with good spin characteristics. Beyond that, I appreciate its aesthetics. The "conical wheel box" file is the box that the wheel snaps in place with. The wheels themselves have a bit of "give" along the cut lines, and the box itself should bend slightly when pulled apart so you can slide the wheel into place. The three part version of the wheel doesn't have the cut lines so you'll have to rely on the flexibility of the box itself. After that, spin until your heart is content. It makes an excellent fidget toy. I'm excited to see if people are able to use it for robotics or r/c as well. Here's a fun example use: turning your micro-quadcopter into a flying unicycle! https://youtu.be/8tKdCq0f2fI Printing: I've included a few different versions depending on your printer capabilities. The one piece .stl is your best bet so long as it will stick to the build plate. I used Atomic Silver PLA going at 60mm/s base speed and the build plate heated to 60C. I've also included a three part snap together version of the wheel, with two different fit tolerances. The pins of the caps should serve as sufficient support by themselves. The tire should be printed in TPU and provides additional grip if you're going to use it as an actual wheel on a robot or r/c device. It'll also mask any flatness from bed adhesion/top layers. If you're just using it as a fidget spinner or on a surface with a lot of friction it isn't necessary.
