Antonine Wall mile fortlet
Description
Antonine Wall fortlet, near Kinneil House, 1/200 scale The antonine wall was built by Hadrian's successor, Antoninus Pius, starting from around 142 AD. It is about 70 miles north of Hadrian's wall and runs from Bo'ness on the Forth estuary to Old Kilpatrick on the Clyde, a length of about 37 miles. The wall was abandoned after about 20 years and was never built in stone, only a rampart built from turfs. This, and that it runs through the industrial heartland of Scotland, means it is far poorer preserved than Hadrian's wall Like Hadrian's wall there were small forts approximately every Roman mile, although they are slightly larger than the ones on Hadrian's wall. This is a model based on the best preserved and partially restored example at Kinneil house
