Hexagon Space Fabric (Dual Color Version)
Description
This version of what is known as "Space Fabric" was inspired by soontekk's Thingiverse upload (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4900557). I made my own where there should be big enough tolerance between the individual hooks for most printers to print it. Also, I provided files of the individual tile pieces (like the standard pieces, outer and inner corner pieces, edge pieces), so you can model your own sheet formats and sizes. You can also do a multi-color print this way which is fascinating to see as only through the FFF method with the layer-by-layer stacking process, tiles of individual color can be interlocked like this to form a sheet that actually feels somewhat like cloth! Might need some careful "breaking" of the seams to make it really soft and flexible like actual cloth. Make sure you use the testSheet file to first test whether it works for your printer. Otherwise, slightly increase the tolerances when you make a sheet yourself :D Printing: Fine layer resolution recommended. Mine was printed with 0.2mm layer height and a .4mm nozzle, which works OK. One or two loops broke loose when I was playing around with it, so maybe smaller layer height should be used. Would be interesting to see how small the tiles could be printed with optimized settings and tweaking! The tinier the tiles, the more cloth-like it should feel. Feel free to use this as an inspiration!
