Pythagorean cup

Pythagorean cup

Description

A Pythagorean cup is a practical joke device in a form of a drinking cup, credited to Pythagoras of Samos. When it is filled beyond the center column, a siphoning effect causes the cup to drain its entire contents through the base. The cup can be used to learn about fluid dynamics. This particular cup is an original design made on FreeCAD from scratch, based on the principles of pythagorean cups. It has been printed and is 100% functional. Scaled versions of the cup should be functional, although narrowing the ducts reduces the draining speed. Printing: Full print made with 0.2mm layer height, 3 line wall count, and 20% cubic infil. These settings of course can be tailored to your printer an prefferences. The part came to about 76x76x80mm and 32g in weight. No support material should be needed. If you need/wish to use support material make sure not to clog the inner ducts, activating options such as "tree" support structure or support placement "touching buildplate only".
