Duct elbow for 150mm pipe
Description
I made this elbow for the bends in my Smeg Cooker hood ducting. This is a temporary solution to vent through my kitchen window until I can core drill a vent through my wall. The print consists of the 2 halves of a 150mm elbow, which will have to be glued together. It will be difficult to align the edges perfectly and there will be small gaps, which shouldn't affect the flow of air much. I used superglue, which is the most affordable option. From what I've read, other methods I can suggest are, 3D pen, Weld-On 3,4 or 16 glue, friction-welding (difficult), and plastic-welding (material-dependent). The pipe-width is 150mm for this cooker hood the greater width reduces the noise of the fan. The air coming from my cooker is not warm enough to affect the PLA. I used most of my bed surface to print this. If it doesn't fit, remove the brim or any extras when slicing. You will need to use supports underneath, but not everywhere. The model did not fit on my ender 3 build plate with an external brim or skirt. I fabricated my own straight ducting pipe: I reclaimed insulation roll to fabricate the pipes and hot-glued the edges to form a cylinder. I included the models for the ribs I used to help to keep it's shape. There is a thinner and a thicker ring. The thicker one I used to slip over the ends and the thinner ones printed faster and glued these along the length of the pipe. I used duct tape over these since they are a very loose fit and were coming undone easily. I printed the visible elbows in two-tone grey and white by chance, because I ran out of filament. This turned out to look amazing, an effect that I would not get from a store-bought product. I used the supports to my advantage by gluing a packaging-foam spacer to the flat surface with contact adhesive and used double-sided tape to wall mount the elbow. Discaimer: Please consult an expert before installing any cooker hood ducting, this make is a concept and does not comply with fire-safety standards.
