Outdoor Vent Hood for Household Air Exchanger

Outdoor Vent Hood for Household Air Exchanger

Description

Outdoor Vent Hood for Household Air Exchanger I had two outdoor vent hoods for my air exchanger that were installed in my home some 10 years ago that have been destroyed by "UV Rot". The outdoor vent was a two part fitting and it was only the hood component that had actually deteriorated. Rather than replace the whole unit I decided to print a replacement hood. I used PLA but I don't know if this is the best material for the outdoors. I have read that if the PLA is kept painted this will protect it from the sun. Other materials may be better suited for outdoor use. Caulking was used to "glue" the hood in place and the outer perimeter contains many dimples to allow the caulking to make a better bond. A picture is included to show the type of vent that I have (the original hood component is missing as this part completely disintegrated from exposure to the sun). The opening is 17.5 x 17.5 cm. The hood could be scaled up or down a bit if it has to be fitted into a slightly different size of venting unit of this design. In order to ensure that the unit is sufficiently strong it is recommend that it be printed with 4 walls and 80% infill. This is a long plot requiring approximately 45 to 46 hours and 178 metres of filament.
