Cyborg Soldier
Description
During the pandemic I had begun my journey into the 3D printing hobby. During this time I also began acquiring different types of model kits... for research purposes of course. Eventually, after building countless robots and mechs, I decided to try out some of the more humanoid model kits: Bandai's Figure Rise Standard, Kotobukiya's Frame Arms Girls and Megami Device. These model kits inspired me to try to design a new model kit with more human like proportions and body parts. The Cybog Soldier (not digging the name but I can't think of anything better at the moment) was inspired by Japanese Tokusatsu like Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Metal Hero, and Super Sentai as well as Mecha Musume model kits. I wanted to give the limbs a real mechanical feel, as if the human inside the suit had their original limbs replaced to become more powerful. To give this effect, I put gaps in places the human body doesn't have gaps, which as a bonus improved articulation. I had a hard time designing the thighs as I really wanted to use ball joints, but ball joints are really hard to 3d print. I also designed the parts to be compatible with certain other model kits, though out of fear of c&d you'll have to figure out which model kits are compatible yourself (hint: look at the pictures). The Cyborg Soldier was designed with a focus on simplicity, durability, and ease of printing. Joints are achieved through a system of 3mm pins that give just enough friction while also easily removed with pliers (for maximum strength, print these so that the long side of the pin is parallel to the build plate). 3 millimeter ports on the arms and legs allow for cross compatibility with most other model kit accessories. I hope you enjoy. Please send feedback as I may create improved versions of the figure in the future. Depending on your printer and plastic, some light sanding and/or tightening of parts may be required. Tightening may be done via thin layers of super glue or multi-surface floor polish.
