Parametric Waterproof Project Box
Description
I have made a parametric project box design in FreeCad for enclosing some electronics in my boat. My intent has been to make the design waterproof, however I haven't tested this, so please don't rely on any box you make being waterproof. I have, however printed this box and used it to enclose one of the six way fuse blocks in my boat and it has proven quite successful on the open deck. No signs of water ingress or corrosion after six months of service in some very harsh weather conditions. It prints well on my Ender 3 printer, no support, 100% infill. Please note that I used 4 stainless steel 4mm countersunk wood screws to secure the lid to the box base. They self tap into the base, which has existing pilot holes. I found no need to drill these out for the screws I used, however if you find the screws are too difficult to tighten , you may need to drill or otherwise change the diameter of the pilot holes to suit. I have removed and replaced the lid many times now and I have seen no signs of screws stripping out the self tapped threads. So far - so good! I hope it is useful to someone out there. At some time in the near future, I'll upload a revision of this box, incorporating an apparatus plate for the box and lid with some mounting bosses for the plate. I will also incorporate a design for single core, waterproof wire entries, which I have used on my boat fuse enclosure. Watch this space!
