GU 8-740 door catch jaws
Description
These are replacement jaws for the GU 8-740 door catch. In my case, the door was slammed into the catch, damaging the original jaws and making the gripping strength of the catch very weak. To use these jaws, you need a GU 8-740 assembly (including the spring). Once removed from the door frame, disassemble the catch as follows: 1. Pull the top part off 2. Slide the backing plate off 3. Remove the original jaws To assemble the replacement jaws do the following: 1. Remove the spring from the original jaws 2. Insert the spring into hole of the smaller part 3. Press the spring against the wall opposite of the jaw of the bigger part 4. Compress the spring downward by pushing on the jaw of the smaller part 5. Continue pressing down and in until the smaller part snaps into the groove of the bigger part. I recommend a generous shot of lithium-based grease for longevity.
