Picture Frame Spot
Description
This is a very simple DIY project, which can make your home´s artwork look like an art gallery. You need the following stuff: (There is a picture with all required components) ° Battery contact and spring from some old device or a dumped battery driven lamp. (e.g. a grave lamp) ° Switch can be obtained from a mini LED light. (These small flickering candle replacements) ° LED strip. I got mine from a dollar store for 1,30 Euro per 30cm LED strip, which provided more than enough LEDs. The one I used provides 9 LEDs when glued to the spot. ° Some small wires to connect the components. ° Three AAA batteries. As you can see most of the parts are actually dumpster parts. :D I added holes for wire management. The entire design is kept simple and in general is not perfect. There is not even a battery cap, as you can´t see the batteries and they cannot fall out when mounted. The entire case is designed pressure fit, too. So you need a little force as the opening is a tiny bit smaller than the diameter of the batteries. Of course this also depends on the battery brand used. The mount itself will not fit to any picture frame, but you can glue it, tape it or screw it to your frame. There is enough material to do so. You can pressure fit the spot into the rod. There is no glue required. At least not for the first 10 battery changes. If the plastic wears off, a drop of glue will do. You may notice that the spot is lighting inwards. This is intentional. You don´t want the lights to reflect on the glass surface or shine straight into the viewers eyes. The light on the pictures also looks much brighter than it actually is. In reality in a dark room, you can stand right before the picture and see all details. Just like it should be. As I said this is far from perfect and a quick and dirty design. Maybe it inspires you to do a better job. I included the FreeCAD source file, so you even can adapt the current model to your personal needs. Happy Printing.
