Hypercube XY idler and Matching Rod Stay/Retainer 8mm Rod & 5mm mounting HW
Description
Rebuilding my hypercube, was dismayed at the broken state of the original rod holders and idler assemblies. Will need to use something like https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2230361 and probably still raise the gears on the motors a bit. Besides being beefier, I wanted to make sure that the y axis rod stayed parallel to the horizontal plane, without a lot of measuring and adjusting. After previewing/attempting a few mix and match parts I realized that these should be designed as a matched set for minimum headache. Apologies if it's crap, I'm in the middle of assembling the thing now so haven't stress tested it, but it looks like it's going to suit my needs. Redesigned for 8mm rod with the normal 5mm hardened steel short screws everyone was using for these at the time, since that's what I had around. I've included the .blend file so it can be modified/re-re-remixed if necessary. Used the Remix part as a guide and reshelled it using box modelling. All voids and holes are made with boolean operations. To resize, for example, the screw holes, you'd want to find that object in the object browser for blender and resize those parts then hide and export the new piece. Also mirror modifier was used where possible. The pulley/bearing voids are a little offset to match the dimensions of the part I remixed from.the chunkier bit goes at the bottom. You'll see what I mean from the photos. When both the matching idler and rod holder are installed correctly the y axis rod should be parallel to the top/bottom. I also made a part for that opposite side that matches the idler and holds the rod at a uniform distance from the top. Both parts are in the same blender file. To print just import 2x each of the parts and flip one on its X axis.
