Muscle v2.0 Supplement for E3d V6 Direct Drive or Bowden
Description
Because this E3d V6 base mounts to the two hotend mount pins common to most 3D printers, this mount should be compatible with a huge variety of common 3D printers. This brings the Muscle v2.0 advanced cooling system, originally designed primarily for Longer and Alphawise printers, to many more 3D printer models and users. I am even working on testing a custom X-axis mount plate for Prusa/Wanhao and other I3 style printers, that will make this kit, and the associated Muscle v2.0 cooling system, 100% compatible (with Bowden extruder setups only) on those printers as well. For direct drive setups, this is a "Matched Set" kit, the parts designed specifically for a BMG style extruder, and to fit and be used with each other as described. Compatibility with other direct drive extruder mounts and/or hotend mounts is possible, but unlikely, and is at user option and own risk to try. For Bowden extruder setups, compatibility is easier, and you don't need the included extruder mount and may be able to use the Muscle v2.0 Bowden front covers, or no front cover, instead of the special direct drive front covers in this kit. Important Advisory: You will need to be able to adjust your Z and Y limit switches switch positions due to the ~1.8mm change in Y axis nozzle position and light difference in nozzle Z height. If your Y and/or Z axis limit switch positions are not adjustable, as I understand to be the case for some printers, you will need to find and install an upgrade(s) to your printer to allow appropriate Y and Z axis limit switch tweaks before embarking on this project. See Post Printing instructions below. Most of the design for the V6 hotend base mount started from the Sapphire V6 Dual Ducts Thing, with extensive modifications to reduce z axis impact, provide a more secure connection of the two main parts, synchronize fan mount points for the Muscle v2 side covers, and to make the two parts more robust and easier to print with almost no supports. Due to the final positioning of the filament input port on the E3d V6 base, if you are going to be using this hotend base with a direct drive setup, this kit also includes a version of one of my Speeddrive remixed extruder and motor mounts, which is specific to and also required for this kit for proper filament port alignments. This extruder mount, when used with a BMG style extruder and a 4023 "pancake" stepper motor, results in zero Z-axis height loss. For other advantages of the Speeddrive style extruder and motor mount, including print speed and other performance considerations, see the Summary info for the Speeddrive v1 Original Direct Drive Mount, as referenced in the Remix links for this kit. As for the Muscle v2.0 parts, as its title suggests, this is not a full remix, but a supplement for the original Muscle v2.0 kit at: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4881453. This supplement provides a custom mount base for a E3d V6 hotend, with all of the fan mount points and compatibility with other Muscle v2 parts in the original Thing, plus two direct drive and E3d mount specific front covers, which replace the Muscle v2.0 Bowden kit's front covers for a direct drive setup. One of these covers is for a 4010 hotend fan, and the other for a 4020 hotend fan. You will need to print the V6 Mount Set plus one of the two optional direct drive front covers in this kit for a direct drive setup. You will need to download a few of the original Muscle v2.0 parts for some of the additional parts you will need to print for your project, specifically the appropriate left and right turbo fan covers. The Muscle v2.0 Thing includes a left fan cover for basic setup, and one for optional attachment of BLTouch ABL probe mounts. If you will be using a BLTouch, print the Muscle v2.0 left fan cover for BLTouch, and both of two BLTouch mount parts from that kit. Finally, pick one of the Muscle v2 front covers from this kit if you are using it with a direct drive setup, and depending on whether you will use a 4010 fan or 4020 fan, and also print the Speeddrive BMG extruder mount from this kit for direct drive setups. With this E3d V6 hotend mount, the matching Speeddrive BMG extruder mount from this kit, and the Muscle v2.0 parts referenced here, including its BLTouch mounts, all of which are fully tested and currently installed on my own Longer LK5 Pro printer, plus slicing with the print quality improvements in the latest Cura 4.12 release, my normal good quality print speed is now 70mms, vs typical 50mms. Updates: 2021-11-28: - Final tweak to Speeddrive v2.2 BMG extruder mount for good vertical alignment with E3d V6 hotend mount. Also gives more clearance between 4023 motor and gantry. 2021-11-30: - Added cable port to front covers of this kit, in appropriate position for a cable bundle to come in. The filament feed needs to come in from the top, especially in a direct drive setup. See Summary for direct drive vs. Bowden considerations for appropriate parts selections. - Added a small cutout for heater and thermistor wire routing on right side of the E3d V6 front mount block part. - Adjust several hole sizes that were too large for fan mounting screws to get a good "bite". - Changed default orientation of front covers to right side down for best quality appearance. Front down is still an option for faster printing of covers with fewer supports, but now must be done in your slicer, if you so choose. - Updated printing and assembly instructions. 2021-12-21: - Put a little more space between front and back parts in the Muscle v2.3 E3D V6 Mount Set parts, which were printing too close together for easy post-print separation. - Updated the Assembled example to include optional BLTouch configuration. - Added many more details, including BLTouch Nozzle to Probe Offsets for Marlin Configuration.h to Post Printing instructions. You will still need to use the Nozzle Offset Wizard in Marlin to fine tune it. - Added and updated other instructions for BLTouch parts if applicable, and for appropriate parts selections and installation instructions for direct drive vs. Bowden setups.
