Perceptual Chess Set

Perceptual Chess Set

Description

This chess set can be viewed both in 2D (from the top) and 3D (all around)! Creation inspired by Polyfjord, check out his video "Modeling a Chess Set That Works in 2D and 3D". I intend on also publishing a video showing how to make such models in Fusion 360. My workflow includes downloading and installing an open-source font which includes chess pieces (FreeSerif), using Inkscape to save the characters of the chess pieces as an SVG file, importing the outline of a 2D chess piece into Fusion 360 and extruding it vertically, and lastly using the Combine tool in Fusion 360to intersect the geometry obtained with that of traditional chess pieces (I used OpenSCAD Chess by TimEdwards). The dimensions of the pieces are in millimeters, and in their current state they fit on a board with tiles between 30mm and 40mm in length. The "Board" STL file is only for reference, and its tiles are 40mm in length. Due to the complex geometry of the pieces it is highly recommended to use stereolithography (SLA/DLP) to print them. I uploaded STL, OBJ and 3mf files to hopefully allow users to modify my design as easily as possible. Please, leave comments if you encounter issues or difficulties printing some of the geometries, as I will do my best to improve and update the files. I sure feel tired after all this work, here's a link If you're in the mood to offer me a coffee. buymeacoffee.com/aleteo Thanks for checking out my project!
