Alternative Pegs and Stand for SR-71 Blackbird
Description
This is a remix of Duckobert's resized pegs (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4802472) for Dauen's re-upload of the fantastic SR-71 model (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4773714). There are two iterations - one keeps close to Duckobert's peg design, but the pegs are hollow and split, just like the well known slotted spring pins used in various technical applications. Fits like a glove (finger, actually - the plane parts are the gloves ...?) into the mid/tail section holes. The second iteration is more interesting - it saves A LOT plastic and time, basically it reduces the pegs to some points of their outer diameter, resulting in a "cross" cross section. IMPORTANT: Print these pegs EXACTLY as oriented in the .stl - and you will need a raft! Why? Because you want the layer lines along the length of the pegs (rather than across) to bear the load of the aircraft sections when assembled. These pegs won't break - and if they should you are able to remove them without hassle. Both design iterations give you a tight fit without the possibility of air getting trapped in the peg holes, necessitating drilling or whatever. In any case I recommend you do a test print prior to the real thing - depending on the degree of tuning of your printer the 100% size might be just that wee bit to large to fit comfortably, and you do not want to damage your gorgeous model. Also added a remix of the SR-71 stand. There were some mentions in the comments for the original model that the triangular tip might be somewhat weak, so I modeled a small hole into it. A drop of superglue goes into the hole, followed by approx 15mm of raw filament, the protruding end is flattened with a heated nail - bingo! For the original model saved by Dauen I found it a time and plastic saving variety to make advantageous use of the new Flash infill (at 25%) introduced in Cura 4.12, leaving the model otherwise entirely hollow - with three walls it prints just OK for display (and even sufficiently rigid for the occasional spy flight in the living room).
