Blind Maze Brain Teaser

Blind Maze Brain Teaser

Description

A maze brain teaser that's fun for all ages. It's no ordinary maze, and you'll find yourself hard pressed to get it all the way in or out. The maze doesn't reveal itself until you've solved it and pulled the tube out, and even then it might be tricky. I'll post the solution further below in case you don't want to spoil it. This makes a great desk toy or gift. The model in the pictures is printed with Hatchbox wood PLA that has been sanded, stained, and clear coated. It feels and sounds like actual wood so I highly recommend it, though any filament should work. It does take a little post-processing, such as sanding and gluing the end cap into place. The amount of processing required will depend somewhat on how well you've tuned your calibration cube. These pieces have somewhat tight tolerances. Note: I built this when I first got into modeling a year and a half back, not knowing that maze boxes were already a thing. Thus, this design is not a remix or derivative, and you'll notice some significant differences in this maze vs the ones that are already on Thingiverse. - - - - - - - - - ---------------------------SPOILER---------------------------- Within the outer shell there are two mazes completely separated from each other. Only one of them (lets call it Maze 2) leads to the opening. Each passage of the mazes is mirrored by a wall on the opposite side of the cylinder, which means the dowel never slides back and forth, EXCEPT for the transition point where the dowel can slide from Maze 1 into Maze 2. This transition point is one specific part of the maze that doesn't feel hardly any different from any other part of the maze, except that it's a 2x2 unit square at a dead end. Once you are there, you can move from one maze to the other by changing the orientation of the maze cylinder until it slides into place (you might have to give it a little shake as well)
