Chessboard - Magnetic Inlaid Style

Description

###Chessboard - Magnetic Inlaid Style ####G. Tielke, December 2021 ------------------------- REVISED VERSION COMING SOON Note: **Not recommended for households with small children** in case the small magnets get loose and are swallowed. Each square holds a hidden magnet (10mm diameter x 2mm thick) so this works with magnetic chess or checker pieces. I intend to publish the magnetic chess set soon. ------------------------- Each square has a recess on the under-side to hold a magnet. Be sure to install the magnets with the correct side up to attract (and not repel) the pieces. The squares press and snap into place on the base of the board. Glue is recommended to ensure they stay in place. The border .stl file includes some extra rectangles to help it adhere during printing; remove them after printing. The border section snaps onto the outside edge of the base, after applying some glue. I used an Ender 3 Pro, which has maximum bed size of 220mm. The base and border sections are 216mm, so very little space is left for a raft. Slicer settings using Cura: >No supports needed for any parts. I added a Raft to some parts since the corners were curling up otherwise. > >Base: Speed=100 (or less), use a Raft with a small Raft Extra Margin (1 or 2 mm). > >Border: Speed=50, use a Raft with a small Raft Extra Margin (1 or 2 mm). I also increased the Raft Smoothing to 20mm, which increases the raft margin internal to the border, although you may not need this. > >Squares: Speed=50, no raft needed. Filament colors: Black for the base, Silver for the border. For the squares I used marble-looking black and white filaments.
