Beyerdynamic DT150 driver terminal cap

Beyerdynamic DT150 driver terminal cap

Description

This is a piece designed to replace the stock cable on the Beyerdynamic DT150 headphone. It is intended that you would print two. Rather than the bulky proprietary cable, two of these can be printed to give the headphone two 3.5mm outputs, one at each cup. This is the connection system that Hifiman uses, which means that, if wired correctly, you'll be able to buy any Hifiman-intended headphone cable and easily run your DT150 single-ended or balanced simply by swapping the cable. You will need two 3.5mm panel-mount connectors with 6mm hex nuts. This is what I used: https://www.ebay.com/itm/270286968716 You will also need two M2-12 screws to replace the stock M2-6 screws holding on the L/R plates. To wire the connectors to work with Hifiman-intended cables, the tip is +, the ring is unused, and the sleeve is -. After soldering on lengths of wire to the appropriate pins, you can embed the connectors in the printed parts. The use of thread locking adhesive is encouraged so that the connectors will not loosen over time. Rewiring the headphone will also be required. The wire running through the headband to connect the two cups will need to be removed or at least desoldered and isolated. After removing/desoldering the headband wire, you will need to rewire the right cup so that the right driver connects to the exterior terminals. Once the connectors have been prepared and the headphone has been rewired, you can solder the connectors to the exterior driver terminals and screw them on in the place of the stock L/R plates using M2-12 screws. I recommend printing this part using at least PETG as in my experience PLA is too brittle.
