Valve Index Headstrap Spring Housing Reinforcment
Description
owning a Valve index I was not worried about much breaking, but what i was worried about had plagued the index in its early days, and finally what i was afraid of finally happened. One of the issues with the Index is the spring housings for the head strap, specifically the back strap that keeps the springs from blowing out the housing, and it finally happened to me. my headset was out of warranty at this so replacing was going to be an expensive endeavor and with the next gen headsets starting to peak out i wasn't about to shell out the case to replace it. I managed to recover the 2 rods, Springs and the plastic piece that broke off and tried some CA Glue alone and it just wasn't enough to support the spring tension, so i made this. it is a simple 3d printed part that you Use Loctite 414 to adhere to the back end of the headset. this can be applied without disassembly of the headset as long as you don't get the CA Glue on the strap itself. This works for both sides of the headset and if your putting it on one you might as well add it to the other. If your headset is still intact but you are near or out of the 1 year point on your headset I highly recommend you do this, even if your housings show no sign of cracks. this is an explosive failure and will leave you unable to play with this headset as there is no commercially available replacement strap for this headset.
