Street crossing / intersection connecting pieces

Description

The pieces are designed to assist children who are blind or have low vision to learn about street crossings. They show the most common types of intersections, with the street lower than the surrounding landscape. The pieces connect so that they can also be used to demonstrate a route. The pieces are designed to be printed at a footprint of 6x6cm. We recommend using contrasting colours for the road and surrounds for clarity for people with low vision. This can be achieved by changing the filament partway through the print, or adding afterwards. These materials were first designed by Adrian Riessen for the South Australian School for Vision Impaired, with additional pieces created by Monash University as part of ARC Linkage Project LP170100026 investigating the use of 3D printing for access to graphics by people who are blind or have low vision.
