Quest 2 Headphone GOMRVR Halo Strap Adapter with Extra Cable Loop (Sony MDR-ZX300/310/100/110)
Description
Attaches Sony MDR-ZX300 headphones (or ZX310, ZX110, or ZX100) to the GOMRVR halo strap for the Oculus/Meta Quest 2 VR headset. This provides a more DAS or Index-like experience for less money (around $15-30 depending on which headphone model you buy), or even none if you have an old pair like I did. No more sound leakage! Thanks to Dinhorj (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4705284) and alpo16000 (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4890023) for the original designs. - Requires 2 M3 nuts and 2 M3x16mm bolts or screws to replace the plastic caps on the hinge of the strap. - To free the headphones from their headband, pry at the tabs at either end on the inside of the headband while pulling the headphone out. This is nondestructive; just push it back in if you need them to be connected again. - The remixed longer caps (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4890023) are included so they properly cover the top bits of the headphone arms. You could also cut off parts of the arms if you want to save filament. - I added extra cable loops so you can use a Link or charging cable. I didn't change their diameter, but the official charging cable fits in if I force it. For some reason, MakerBot Print put in some extra material around them on the bottom layers, probably a side effect of how I made the edit. It broke off easily enough. (See picture for example.) - Instead of cutting and resoldering the wire, I just Velcro tied the excess and let it rest on top of the headset. On some headphone models, there's a stopper piece that prevents you from separating the wires halfway through - this is fused to the wires, it can NOT be cut off. - The headphones sit about 2 cm lower on my ears than I think they should. Not a problem (you can still hear them fine) and probably just because of my big head. YMMV, obviously. - Countersunk M3x16mm bolts are the best option, since they lay flush with the rest of the plastic and won't be felt on your head. They took a little bit of force to screw in, but fit just fine once they created threads in the headstrap plastic and printed parts. I actually think you could get away with not using nuts, but I don't want to test my theory. - It should fit in GOMRVR's case, but you might need to take out the headphones. Cable managing the wire better and taking out the rubber wire protectors would also help.
