WATER JET with 80mm impeller (very experimental prototype)

WATER JET with 80mm impeller (very experimental prototype)

Description

This is a highly experimental prototype of a water jet pump for small boats like Kayaks or Surfboards. The mixed-flow design should ensure a higher static pressure than the common axial flow jet pumps without the need for a second impeller stage. I recommend having a lathe for this project but it is not strictly needed, a drill press or hand drill together with common hand tools like files and a saw should do the trick. Furthermore, about 15pcs of (stainless) M8 Bolts (M8 x30) and nuts, 8mm stainless or aluminium steel shaft for the impeller, 4mm aluminium rods for the grid, and a M3 x 16mm (or 20mm) stainless steel screw and (lock) nut and 4pcs 3,5x12mm wood screws will be needed together with silicone and marine grease and 2 (stainless if possible) skateboard (608 2rs) bearings. Some id 8mm pipe ca be used as a shell around the impeller axle to turn the rear bearing into a thrust bearing. The Motor can be a 56x100+ mm brushless motor with low kV (400 or lower), or even bigger. I used an old CR10 to print the jet pump. Wall thickness was 1.8mm with 0.6mm nozzle. Infill is not critical but I recommend not going below 15%. Support should not be needed for any parts. The impellers have custom support already in the file. The impeller should be printed hot to ensure maximum stability between the layers, of course with part-cooling enabled... I already tested it successfully with low voltage and it was able to produce 4kg of static thrust at 270 watts. I am looking forward to put the pump into an old Kayak and test it with higher power in a dynamic setting.
