Romulan Chess - Dignified Zhamaq Set
Description
This is a set of fan-made prop replica pieces for the Romulan chess seen in Star Trek Picard. *The complete board and socket sets are still in progress. Also known as Zhamaq, the game pieces include different ranks of Romulan command. There are seven ranks, print out duplicates of each if you want a full set. There are 16 pieces needed per player. - Munifex (7 pieces) - Conicen (2 pieces) - Immunes (2 pieces) - Centurion (2 pieces) - Quaestor (1 piece) - Praetor(1 piece) - Emperor (1 piece) I named this as a 'Dignified Set' because the bases of the pieces splay out a little at the bottom. This is a fine detail I discovered when examining photos of the pieces on the three-dimensional boards seen in Star Trek Picard. For the 'Peasant Set,' the pieces are rounded in at the bases, possibly from years of wear. After some fiddling with the pieces, I can say that the rounded bottom makes them easier to pick up. I'll post the second set when I perfect the pieces. These particular models may seem small at first, but they are very close in scale to the props in the show. I bought a set of the Rittenhouse pikhmit cards (Romulan Tarot cards) and they scale satisfactorily. Nine piece triangles in a large triangle pattern roughly are the size of a Rittenhouse pikhmit card. Position of the pieces in my picture is meant to emulate the piece setup shown in the show. What are the rules? Being a fictional game, no rules set has been revealed. A full game will require three sets of pieces, Blue/White/Red, a board or playmat, and a set of pikhmit cards. The only known play example is from the Blu-Ray extras where the 'Romulan Hidden Door' allows a Munifex to defeat another Munifex during a play turn. The object is to have at least one piece on each of the Fortresses. There are plains, rivers, and mountain terrain spaces that influence play. There was a set of two dice in one concept image, but I didn't see them anywhere else. I'd really like to figure out how to play so if you have ideas let me know! Game concept by Michael Chabon, showrunner for Star Trek Picard. Design also from the show. Do not print these for sale.
