Aqara Scene switch - UK light switch adapter

Aqara Scene switch - UK light switch adapter

Description

Adapter for Zigbee battery scene switches. These are sold under many different brands: - Tuya - Zemismart - Moes - Yagusmart - Lilon And many more. I purchased a couple of these and connected them up to Deconz to control smart bulbs as it was quite common for guests to accidentally turn off the light switch rendering the smart bulb useless. Since completing this design I now have 6 of them. I wanted to try and leave the. original switch accessible incase I needed to repair/change a bulb. So I thought these battery scene switches would be perfect. I went through several different designs including one where I mounted blanking plates over the light switches with long screws and then mounted these scene switches onto that but it was too bulky and didn't look right. I have finally settled on this design. Most of my light switches required the switch to slide on the opposite way from the original cover due to door frames being close but I have included both the left and right version. Left adapter is for if the door frame is on the left and right adapter is for if the door frame is on the right. If your light switch is not blocked on one side or the other I would recommend printing the Right adapter as this requires no work modifying the scene switch. ==================================================================== The right adapter requires no alternation to the scene switch. The left adapter does require a small alteration which I did with a pair of side cutters (the ones that came with my Ender 3) (see pictures): - Unscrew the four screws at the bottom (be careful these strip easily) - Gently pull back the white tabs and remove the centre plastic piece (be careful, depending on your model you will have anywhere from 2-4 tiny springs which are easy to put back but not easy to find if dropped!) - With a ruler measure from the notches on the right side and mark up identical notches on the left side. (these don't have to be very precise but as close to the original the better) - Then with side cutters, snip down each side of the lines you have drawn for the new notches and then pull the remaining piece out with some needle nose pliers (a few bends back and forth and the plastic will snap). - Now line the plastic middle piece back up and gently click the white clips back into place (this can be difficult, I used a spudger and a small screwdriver) - Put the four screws back and not this will fit on the new adapter. This alteration will have no affect on the switch's operation and it will continue to work with the original battery cover if you need it to. Please be aware this will most certainly void any sort of warranty you have (if you have one!), I take no responsibility for any issues. The only thing you will now have to do to install the switch is to mark on the adapter the distance on the holes for your switch cover screws and drill these out. Once attached you can then slide the scene switch into place. Please be aware the switch underneath needs to be in the On position for this to work. (If you have a double switch you will need to remove the middle plastic piece in the way detailed above and then widen the cutout on the left and right side only by a few mm using a pair of side cutters.) ==================================================================== These adapters will work for any switch with this same back cover I have tested the 1 button, 2 button and 4 button scene switches. ==================================================================== I may still look at improving this design as I feel there must be a way to have the switch lock into place with a little bit more resistance, but for now this works fine. takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to print each one. Thanks.
