Gaping Maw modular back plate mod for Rat Rig V-Core printers
Description
Gaping Maw Integrated duct-bottom plate ecosystem. This is an ecosystem of parts for the EVA carriage. The large size of the Gaping Maw ports is made possible due to integration of the parts cooling duct into the bottom plate of the EVA carriage. To implement the Gaping Maw fan ducting you need three parts 1. Integrated duct-bottom plate 2. Back plate. (choose for your fan option) 3. Fan Mount. (Choose for your fan option) Universal Integrated duct-bottom plates 1. D type - optimised for Dragon hot ends. 2. M type - Optimised for Mosquito hot ends.. 3. R type - optimised for Rapido HF and UHF hot ends (not released yet). 3. G type - Generic a good choice if you regularly change hot ends. It can be used with all of the hot ends above including the Rapid HF and *UHF. *To be able to use the Gaping Maw Ducts with the Rapido UHF you will need to use the Fast-Swap-Rigid face plate that has an upper an lower mounting position for the hot end I found turning off detect thin walls in PrusaSlicer and Super Slicer made these print better. Gaping Maw tensioner-less back plates The Gaping Maw integrated duct-bottom plates must be used with a back plate with the Gaping Maw port size. Tensioner-less Gaping Maw back plates are designed to be used with printers that have the belt tensioners relocated from the EVA carriage back plate to the front idlers. 1. Gaping Maw tensioner-less back plate for dual 5015 fans. With this mount dual 5015 fans push a lot more air through the Gaping Maw port size than other dual 5015 fan mounting options that use the standard EVA port size. 2. Gaping Maw tensioner-less back plate for 4028 fan mounting. 3. Gaping Maw tensioner-less back plate for Pabst fan mounting. Gaping Maw fan mounts 1. Dual 5015 fan mount. 2. 4028 fan mount. 3. Pabst fan mount. Gaping Maw back plates are also available with standard Rat Rig belt tensioners 1. Gaping Maw 4028 fan mount back plate with tensioners https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5330852 Acknowledgements The Gaping Maw ecosystem is a derivative of the original brilliant EVA carriage developed by Pawel Kucmus. Hence the Gaping Maw integrated duct-bottom plate and back plates are compatible with the standard EVA carriage ecosystem. BOM for use with Tensioner-less back plate 2 x M3 x 8 mm or 10 mm long cap screws for holding the fan mount on. 3 x M3 brass heat inserts for the integrated bottom plate/fan duct 4 x M3 threaded inserts for the back plate Instructions and BOMs Dual 5015 fan mount: You will need to cut off the two rear facing mounts on your fans so that they do not hit the foot of the rear 'flying umbilical cable' mount. This is easily done with a hacksaw. BOM 1 x M3 x 45 mm Cap Screw (upper fan mount) 1 x M3 lock nut (upper fan mount). 2 x M3 x 12 mm cap screws (lower fan mount) 2 x M3 threaded inserts. 4028 fan mount: Note this is modelled with internal supports in the top section of the duct to make it easier to print. Please remove these supports after printing. 4 x M3 32 mm (upper fan mount) 2 x M3 x 12 mm cap screws (lower fan mount) 6 x M3 threaded inserts. Pabst fan mount: BOM 1 x M3 X 20 mm Cap Screw (upper fan mount). 2 x M3 x 12 mm cap screws (lower fan mount). 3 x M3 threaded inserts. Tensioner-less back plates: BOM The tensioner-less back plates are mounted using your existing 3mm cap screws. 4 x M3 threaded inserts. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001407970757.html To attach belts install the tensioner-less back plate on your standard EVA carriage or the Fast-Swap--Rigid carriage and then double the last 15 mm of your belt over and feed through the retaining slots. Insert a small length of filament into the doubled over portion and pull tight. I use these brass threaded inserts, but others of similar size will work fine too. I install then using a standard soldering iron with a round pointed tip. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001407970757.html Update 26/03/22 Changed spacing of bottom mounting holes to provide more clearance for the heads of the cap head screws. Updated 18/04/22 Moved hole for PTFE tube on tensioner-less back plates so that PTFE tube can sit tidily hidden inside your flying umbilical cord cable wrap. Update 21/04/22 Changed the name of the A type duct to G type, to better reflect that it is a generic duct.
