BK Active Dry Box
Description
This is a remix based on Ricky's dry box design that uses a slightly smaller container (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00284AG5K/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_7?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1). The container I am using is not as tall, but is what I had on-hand. I designed a roller system that sits atop of a desiccant box that you may insert whatever desiccant you like to use into. I chose to use color changing silica beads which will not remove moisture from the filament, but should keep the contents of the box perfectly dry. The roller system can be used, or you can mount Ricky's spindle into this box and just use the desiccant box beneath the roll. The baseplate of the original design is the exact same in my design and is the basis for making this all work so well. Great work Ricky!! I altered the feet/legs only to shorten them some, but they are otherwise dimensionally identical to Ricky's design (other than height). I have provided a couple different versions of the roller system... One with the attachments on the box (best performance), and one with an attachment strap that connects the roller assembly together and allows it to be independently removed whilst keeping the desiccant box intact (this one will require shimming to keep it from moving about inside the box). When the filament starts to get a little low, I noticed that tension can sometimes alter the path of the spool on the rollers, for this, I designed a spool guide to help keep the spool on track when it gets lighter. You may not need this part, but it definitely won't hurt anything. I have it attached to a PC4-M10 filament guide with a bowden tube in place of the PC4 connector. You can choose however you like the filament to exit the box, so I have not included the connectors I ended up using but did attach the guide so you can use it if you like. Another issue that can occur based on your filament exit... The box could potentially slide a bit depending on the surface it is on (best to attach it to its surface so it cannot move). This will not occur if the exit hole is in the bottom of the box like Ricky's design. So, if you are looking for a slightly smaller filament dry box than the original I remixed this from, hopefully this will help you make it happen. For me, it was just a good project to challenge me to design new parts based on a great design (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4787740). Thanks again to Ricky for all of the hard work and for the vision that helped me make this box happen. Cheers!
