8" Spinner mod

8" Spinner mod

Description

Purchased an "Excell RC folding 8x4.5" prop for use with my Eclipse model and found that the spinner cone itself was too large for the plane model, but the base plate was almost perfectly sized. So using the original part's rough measurements I made a narrower spinner that sits ON the base instead if surrounding it. It's nearly the perfect size now for the Eclipson model A and works with the original mounting screw. Should be a easy drop in replacement for a thinner spinner! A few things I must note about this make: When making this part narrower than the original, I had to make the slot for the blades an odd shape to clear the screws that hold the folding props in place. both screws face the same way, so the spinner only fits on the plane one way. you may need to do a little bit of additional trimming if it does not sit centered. I didn't include the two vent holes in the original spinner, I was worried they would compromise the structural integrity of the 3d printed part too much, you can add them in with a soldering iron or drill if you really want them there. As will all props and spinners, for best performance I do suggest you balance the spinner with this new nose cone as it very likely will NOT be perfectly balanced. It will fly unbalanced, but may increase bearing wear on the motor, slightly lower performance, etc. Careful not to over tighten the retaining screw, it should be tight, but over-tightening it will increase the chances it cracks, breaks, or flies apart while in use! Part will likely need a skirt or raft as it is narrow. and in theory it shouldn't need supports if your printer is dialed in as the gaps are not too large. (But it doesn't hurt to use enough supports to fill them in while printing either!) Lastly, I adjusted the file down to where the propeller blades *can* rotate forward of 90 degree's just a tiny bit. I could be mistaken about this but it shouldn't cause problems during operation as the spinning force holds them straight and steady in flight.
