Tamiya ORV Motor Mount / Gear Cover
Description
Based on my experiences with an original Blackfoot I'm restoring, virtually every black resin part has the tendency to go brittle more than 30 years on. So since I started fixing it, it's slowly becoming more 3D Printed than original. Nevertheless, I like to run my cars, so better to take the old brittle parts off and swap them out for 3D printed replacements. This component in particular was made off the original dimensions of the gear cover, though I beefed up the screw holes a little more just to be safe, as that's what's started to crack on the original part. While I haven't taken it out yet, I'm confident it should hold up longer than an original, granted you do print it in something more heat-resistant like PETG. Additionally, I purposely left out the little flange that the original has so it can print without any supports. The inside opening also curves in to prevent that from needing wasted material as well. The flange isn't much of a loss, as it can be supplemented by greasing the underside of the part to create a seal. Happy printing!
