Gyroid Patch Outline on a Cube, Soap Film Wire
Description
#### Gyroid Patch Outline on a Cube, and More This is yet another design in our effort to bring the gyroid to K-12 students. The best way to introduce the gyroid seems to be the “soap film” on a skew hexagon, as Schoen did in the 1970s. The present design allows children to wrap a copper wire around a cube, following the outline of a gyroid patch, so they know where and how the ideas develop. Indeed, without the scaffold, one can still make a functional skew hexagon. However, the cube provides a unique lens to the gyroid structures. Once the skew hexagon is made, one can dip it in some bubble juice and enjoy the beauty of the soap films. I also added a few axes (holes) to allow for cube spinning! Give it a try using a small wire or screwdriver. ####References 1. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5394636 2.
