customizable spoked wheel or flywheel
Description
As part of one of my hobbies, I occasionally need a flywheel, so I had a go at designing one in openscad- this is the result. It is a customizable flywheel generator, with draft so it can be used as a casting pattern. Most dimensions are customizable- including the number of spokes and whether they are oval or round, and to what degree. It has draft so it can be easily removed from the moulding sand, and a couple of 3mm registration holes on the back side to keep the halves aligned in the mould while ramming the sand. To enable the spokes to have small fillets at either end, the hub of the flywheel is a polygon with the number of sides made equal to however many spokes you choose- otherwise the flywheel is liable to develop fatigue cracks at the sharp corners when running.
