Taiwan Independence Flag
Description
I'm posting this today to celebrate Nacy Pelosi's arrival in the Republic of China, or Taiwan, despite intense pressure from China. This event can mean many good or bad things, it all depends on how the people and the world reacts. Ever since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949, the Republican government has lived in exile on the island of Formosa and was the recognized government of China until the 70s. They have maintained a stable, democratic government since then and the mainland largely ignored them. However, as of recent Xi has proclaimed the rebellious state can be 'reunified by force if necessary.' Taiwan shines as a beacon of hope that even under an authoritarian regime people are willing to resist and maintain their freedoms. Taiwan's best hope to maintain its freedom is for the world to stop bowing down to the mainland's wishes. It is the proposed Taiwan Independence Flag, called the "Hearts in Harmony" designed by Donald Liu in 1994. The green field was to symbolize the natural beauty of the island and the need to protect the environment; the white was to symbolize the purity of the people on the island and the desire to preserve the natural beauty; and the device in the center was to symbolize four hearts in harmony, representing the four population groups on the island: the indigenous peoples, Hakka, Hoklo, and mainlanders. This flag has emerged as the most well-known proposed flag of Taiwan, though it has not gained acceptance with the mainstream Democratic Progressive Party. This print can be either wall art, a stencil, or even engraved into something.
