Cruziana Fossil (Trilobite Tracks)

Cruziana Fossil (Trilobite Tracks)

Description

Around 540 to 200 million years ago, from the Cambrian to Triassic Periods, small trilobites were moving on the bottom of the sea, leaving their tracks imprinted on sea ground. These tracks were covered by different layers of dust and earth, hardening over millions of years… One day they emerged from the sea in stone form. They are known as cruzianas… In particular, these cruziana fossil was found in the Montes de Toledo region in central Spain. This area has small hills that used to be at the bottom of the sea. Tectonic movements have caused the sea to recede and new lands to be formed, uncovering these long and unusual track fossils: the cruzianas.
