Pinewood Derby Car Shell (1955 Lancia D50)

Pinewood Derby Car Shell (1955 Lancia D50)

Description

This may be a great project for anyone with extra time on their hands. Printing, sanding, and assembling this car takes a lot of time and effort, but it's good for someone like me that has no woodworking skills. For best results, the body should be smoothed using resin and baby powder. (Google "3d printing smoothing with resin and baby powder" for videos and guides on how to do this.) This build is inspired by the 1955 Lancia D50. The Lancia D50 was a Formula 1 racing car that first appeared toward the end of the 1954 season at the Spanish Grand Prix. It took pole position and completed the fastest lap in qualifying, but retired early in the race due to a failed clutch. After the Lancia family sold their controlling share in the Lancia company to Ferrari, the car was rebranded as the "Lancia-Ferrari D50", and later as the "Ferrari D50". The D50 would ultimately race in 14 World Championship Formula 1 Grands Prix, and would win 5. I built this model just because it's a really pretty car. As with all of my builds, I'm not good enough at Fusion 360 to create a faithful replica, but I tried to capture most of the key elements.
