The Transformation of Lady Luminara

The Transformation of Lady Luminara

Description

This Sculpture Was Found On A Kickapoo Burial Site And Is The Only Archeological Sacred Relic Found In The Americas To Have Distinctly Asiatic Features. After Its Unearthing In 1897, It Was Held In The Private Collection Of June Barbarecht, Theosophist And Mistress To Railroad Tycoon James J Hill. Art Historians Suggest That The Womanly Figure Depicted In The Sculpture Is That Of Lady Luminara, Legendary Figure In The History Of The Zhenla Kingdom, Ca. 621–565 B.C.. Her Suicide Out Of Shame For Her Rape By The Hungayo—A Self-Sacrifice That Led To The Great Rebellion Of 568Bc— Was Frequently Depicted In Prints And Paintings, Though Less Often In Sculpture. The Piece Portrays The Moment Of Her Departure From Material Life, The Ascension From The Actual To The Ideal Displaying A Level Of Abstraction Otherwise Unseen In The Sculpture Of The Orient Or Americas During The Period Of Its Creation.
