Konrad Zuse began to design what we now call computers before World War II in his parents home. That evolved into the Z3 ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5499691 ) and dozens of others until his patents and company were acquired. One of those innovations was Plankalkül, a programming language that had some influence on ALGOL.
