Multi-purpose mounting arm (expandable & extendable)
Description
I was looking for an adjustable platform to hold my webcam at eye level, I saw the LiftPod - Easy Lock Edition by HeyVye however the comments were rather negative and yes I didn't feel like printing all those parts and having to do so much adjustment every time I wanted to use it. I designed this platform that can be adjusted without loosening any screws yet while remaining stiff and strong. Beyond the printed parts, you'll need (the ones I use are linked) - Compression Springs, L48.9 x OD15 x ID10mm - M4x20mm nuts - M4 washers - M4 threaded inserts for the Spring Cores - M4 square nuts for the Arm Ribs Note on printing Everything prints without support in the default orientation of the STLs. Note on assembly The Arm Ribs are there to prevent arms from moving independently from one another, I use a drop of super glue on each of the V groves to secure the arms together, before you do make sure the Right and Left arm's teeth are facing each other in alignment, otherwise it will be impossible to assemble The Spring Cores go in the springs and are secured by two M4x20mm bolts + washers, I designed a little 2.5mm hole in the middle so that you can use your smallest Allen key to prevent it from turning when screwing them in. This spring core assembly is to prevent the system from getting loose over time, by giving it limits to which it can expand to. As such, you will need to adjust the screws to achieve - 59mm outer edge-edge of both base and tool head - 61mm outer edge-edge of arm joints (Outer Arms) I also use Loctite 263 to make sure nothing gets loose over time. Note on design I didn't think too much about the teeth size or distribution when designing, and by the time I realised I should have, the parts were already printed... its unfortunately rather tricky to get a perfectly horizontal or vertical tool head plate in certain heights (as the combination of teeth angle do not add up perfectly to 0dgr or 90dgr at all heights) Come to think of it I could have designed the tool head with smooth surfaces for fine adjustments to the detriment of strength... for version 2. Enjoy.
