Ultimate Coffee Tray (carrier)

Ultimate Coffee Tray (carrier)

Description

For assembly you need to print both parts 2 times. See assembly instructions on how to assemble. Imagine, you work in an office where people are kind enough to take coffee/tea/soup in disposable paper cups from the machine for each other in turns. That was/is my situation, but soon it started to itch... The coffee trays we had were all provided by external parties and were: too small / too weak / too clumsy / just junk... I had just purchased a 3D printer and so 1 of my 1st projects was started. The aim was to make the ultimate coffee tray. These were the starting points for the design: It had to be a sturdy tray. The tray had to be suitable up to 8-9 positions that could be carried in one hand. One hand had to be free at all times to operate the machine. He also had to look a little appetizing. Fully printable without other fasteners. You where not supposed to easily burn your hand in the event of spillage or overflowing of the cups. It had to be handy, without having to think about how to use it. Had to fit 2 sizes of cups as we had slightly bigger cups for soup. Because I was familiar with 3D software (Solidworks) for my work, I started with the design. After a 1st design which was not satisfactory (tray was too thin and bent because of the hot cups) this was the final design. To this day, it is still used daily by everyone in the office to great satisfaction. The tray fits nicely in the hand and because of the positioning when holding it, carrying a full tray (9 cups) with one hand is no problem at all. An additional advantage when unfolding is that the holding position shifts to the center which creates a more stable situation, unlike other holders that you can often only grip on the outside edge, which requires much more force (and balance). This way there is a minimal chance of spilling (and burning your hands). When you unfold the tray (folded step 1 & 2), the tray centers itself and locks when 1 cup is placed in a overlapping position. For the different unfolding positions, see the attached picture. Folded step 3 was not foreseen use, but can be used, said it less convenient. With 9 (10) positions you can always bring enough coffee/tea/soup to serve everyone in the office or with a meeting... If there is a wish to be able to carry other cup sizes (for example beer ..) then I am willing to provide a custom design. Let me know by private message and I'll see what I can do.. For the clips I choose to print them rotated upward (standing) to ensure that the maximum strength was achieved for the bending parts. (lips on the clip) For that orientation sufficient support was used. Use at least 20% infill for the tray parts to ensure no deformation due to (very) hot drinks! p.s. Normal cups can also be placed in the positions for the large cups. However, these sink then slightly deeper in the holder (± 1,5 cm). p.s. since I use a printer with a 300x300 bed, I could print 2 trays in one go! See the added image for positioning… If you decide to print all parts the same color, you can add the 2 clips on the space left.
