120mm Thru Wall Duct
Description
My PC is located under my desk and can generate a lot of heat. So I made this simple 120mm duct to pull the hot air out of my office and into an adjacent workshop. While any 120mm fan should work, I used this model that I found on Amazon because it allowed me to control the speed (and noise): https://www.amazon.com/Qirssyn-Controller-Amplifier-Playstation-Component/dp/B092C65F3P?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1 Parts needed: 1) 120mm fan and power source 2) eight #4-#6 7/8" anchor screws 3) 3D printed duct and cover plate Tools Needed: 1) sheet rock saw 2) a compass for drawing circles 3) a small bladed screwdriver at least 6" long 4) a drill with a 3/16" bit for the anchor screws To install: 0) Mount the fan to the duct using the long screws included with the kit 1) Use a stud finder to locate an appropriate location away from any power lines 2) Draw a 126mm diameter circle using a compass 3) Take a long narrow screwdriver and holding it perpendicular to the wall, punch it through the center of the circle, through the wall, and out the other side. 4) Use a hand sheet rock saw and cut out the 126mm circle. 5) Go to the other side of the wall and draw a 126mm circle centered on where the screwdriver punched through. 6) Cut out that circle and clear away any insulation. 7) Make sure that the duct fits through the holes and is flush against the wall. If it isnt, trim the edge of the hole until it is flat. 8) drill 3/16" holes for the anchor screws on both walls and install the pieces. 9) Apply power to the fan and start cooling your office.
