Steam Deck SSD hot-swap port

Steam Deck SSD hot-swap port

Description

I figure I may as well share this WIP considering I won't be taking it any further until my docking station arrives. Additional hardware needed: * USB C Sata adapter * Two M1.6 screws of appropriate length * Two SSD mounting screws Optional: * Compatible USB C splitter (I don't really have any recommendations at this time). The adapter housing is built around a stripped down USB C Sata adapter I found on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZPKNQYW I used an x-acto knife to remove the outer covering and most of the protective epoxy that surrounds the PCB. An image provides a glimpse to what the epoxy looks like underneath the outer cover, just to give an idea of how delicate this task might be. I've also trimmed up some of the cable protection at the end so that it could fit a bit more snug in place and left only enough epoxy to keep the wires protected and snug. The dock taps into a couple M1.6 metal threading holes by utilizing a couple longer screws. I went with 10mm to start with, but believe 12mm would be a better fit. I've only made this little adapter out of necessity, being that I couldn't find anything similarly like it. I've place it in the best possible position to allow for ventilation, docking and something that creates the lowest possible silhouette in a case. It does still make the Deck protrude though however, so I would not recommend storing something like this until the gyros can be protected in some way. There are a few alternatives available from what I've seen, but nothing I've tried on my own. Areas I will be looking to improve upon unless a better solution becomes available: * Add grooves to clamp the wire in place when not in use * Smooth out the edges. * Ensure Steam Deck docking station compatibility. * Identify a solution for storage that wouldn't compromise the gyros. Cheers!
