Origins Gaming Table - Leave alignment cut jig

Origins Gaming Table - Leave alignment cut jig

Description

This is a jig I utilized to make angled cuts into the leaves of my Origins gaming table (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gametheorytables/the-origins-exquisite-and-functional-board-game-table) to make the leaves self-centering and eliminate lateral motion (so that pushing on the table on the side doesn't cause the leaves to slide out). The jig provides consistent distance and a correct angle for cutting the protruding tongue of the leaves with a flush-cut saw. Once the cut pieces are glued (I used hot glue, it works fine) into the receiving grooves (flush with the ends, with the proper angles to match), the boards fit together and self-center, eliminating almost all lateral motion. The first cut (with the Jig) will not completely reach the board face to prevent marring the surface. Once you've made that cut, you then use the flush-cut saw to cut the tongue along the board face up to the point where the angled groove will intersect. Then complete the angled groove cut to free up the piece. Took two people about 15 minutes to do all the cuts and gluing (once the jig is printed, of course). The end result is simple but pleasing, and solves a nagging issue with this table. (You may need to sand the groove the blade fits into if your saw blade is slightly bigger than mine. Inserting some 100-200 grit sandpaper into the slot does the trick.) You may also choose to paint over the raw wood afterwards to fit your table's color, but that's a personal touch.
