Holder for GQ GMC-500+ and other GQ measurement devices
Description
# Description / use This is a set of holders I made for my GQ GMC-500+ geiger counter/radiation detector. It will also fit the GQ GMC-500 and other devices from GQ (e.g. my EMF-390 electromagnetic radiation detector.) The device is able to measure and compare (food) samples which you can do by attaching one of the holder versions to the sampling stand and the corresponding adapter. The GMC -500+ has a second, less sensitive Geiger Muller tube, able to measure radiation up to 42,500 µS/hr. A source with such emission is nothing I would like to come really close to. So I made a broomstick adapter using the conical threat connector for the vileda mop rod published by Cornflakesninja. Many thanks for sharing this connector! It uses a standard thread for broom sticks common in several European countries. The broomstick adapter should be helpful also for measuring contaminations e.g. on the ground. The holder comes in two versions: * a light one intended more for stationary use on the sampling stand * and a sturdy one which is slightly bigger, so that it also holds the device, when protected with a little plastic bag against contamination of the GMC itself. If you find the light version to wobbly on the sampling stand for your purpose, using the sturdy version, which fits to the sampling stand adapter too, will help to some extent. #Mounting material needed To assemble everything, you will need the following mounting material: * 12 mm pipe (e.g. from aluminium) for the sampling stand, 15 to 20 cm length will be sufficient, depending on the intended purpose. * pieces of M5 threaded rod for attaching the lock to the sturdy holder and for clamping the sampling stand and its adapter to the 12 mm pipe, I used: 2 x 40mm & 1 x 25 mm * M5 wing nuts: two for the sampling stand and one for the lock of the sturdy holder * countersunk screws M5x16mm, two four mounting each of the adapters to a holder #Printing I printed all items using PETG filament, using 20% gyroid infill for the adapters. Everything is designed in a way, that support is not needed, except for the clearance made for the Geiger Muller tube in the sturdy holder. (The Cura settings “zig zag support” and 1.2 mm of “horizontal expansion” worked fine for me.)
